Чарльз Диккенс (англ. Charles Dickens; 1812—1870) — английский писатель, романист и очеркист. Самый популярный англоязычный писатель при жизни, он и в наше время имеет репутацию классика мировой литературы, одного из крупнейших прозаиков XIX века. Творчество Диккенса относят к вершинам реализма, но в его романах отразились и сентиментальное, и сказочное начало. Самые знаменитые романы Диккенса (печатались отдельными выпусками с продолжением): «Посмертные записки Пиквикского клуба», «Оливер Твист», «Дэвид Копперфильд», «Большие надежды», «Повесть о двух городах».
