This International Standard defines the design criteria that shall be used for the selection of metallic materials in order to prevent failure due to stress-corrosion cracking (S CC). It classifies alloys for stress-corrosion susceptibility in sodium chloride (NaCl) environments and describes the method to seek materials approval from the stress-corrosion standpoint. It does not discuss other forms of environmental cracking, such as corrosion fatigue or hydrogen embrittlement.
