This book does not deal with the particular aspects of content management for Web applications. Specific programs are being implemented to accommodate the distinct requirements in this application domain. However, Web pages as one media type that has to be handled by a professional content management system are considered within this book. Further, document management is also not of prime concern to this book. Documents are considered just as another content type that has to be managed in the system. The content objects the book deals with are audiovisual, visual, audio, text, and structured media objects that are produced and have to be managed in today’s content-rich organizations. The main focus of this book is on media and broadcast operations. However, since more and more organizations (for instance, libraries, educational institutions, large corporate organizations, etc.) have to handle high-quality content, the discussed concepts, principles, and systems are also relevant to them.
