The advances in heat transfer enhancement techniques in all its aspects have been dealt with in this book. Part I deals with the single phase fl ow and Part II deals with the two-phase flow.
Industrial economy and growth are strongly dependent upon the performance of the machinery being used for different purposes. Irrespective of the type of industry, concepts of recycle and recovery are prevailing in order to save (i) energy and (ii) environment. Heat exchangers were devised and introduced in different plants in order to address energy saving and environmental issues. Needless to say that heat exchanger’s performance needs to be improved as they consume major power in any plant. In this book source of major thermal resistance in heat exchangers is discussed in heat exchanger fundamental sections and the method of accessing their performance is explained from energy saving point of view. Since it is always desirable to improve the performance of existing heat exchanger, innovative methods proposed by different researchers are presented in a lucid manner. Size reduction without compromising thermohydraulic performance has always been prime objective of designers and in continuation of their effort compound techniques of heat transfer enhancement have evolved as a promising solution. The detailed discussionon this technique is presented in advances in compound technique section. Poor thermal conductivity has been identifi ed one of the key factors responsible for reduced heat transfer. Recent advances pertaining to the technology of preparation and addition of high thermal conductivity nano particles in the heat transfer fluids and subsequent performance improvement are also discussed in the last section.
